Uitnodiging voor tentoonstelling, inheemse toespraken en academische keynotes door Paola Ricaurte Quijano en Linnet Taylor.. Georganiseerd door de seed funding group: Exploring digital transformation in collaboration with indigenous communities in the Amazon Rainforest.
Hoe gebruiken verschillende gemeenschappen van inheemse volkeren in het Amazone regenwoud digitale technologieën, en welke beperkingen komen ze tegen bij het gebruik van digitale apparaten en algoritmen die vanuit een westers perspectief zijn ontworpen? Dit evenement onderzoekt het creatieve potentieel in die momenten waarop verschillende epistemologieën elkaar op dezelfde interface ontmoeten.
Op 21 mei nodigen we je uit in Belcampo Café De Hallen in Amsterdam om de komst te vieren van onze inheemse medewerkers uit de Sateré Mawé-gemeenschap, die helemaal vanuit het Amazone regenwoud naar ons toe zijn gekomen. Het evenement zal fotografie, schilderijen en ander materiaal tonen dat is geproduceerd tijdens twee maanden veldonderzoek.
Tijdens het evenement zullen Josias en Joao Sateré hun visie op digitale toekomsten delen, gevolgd door keynotes van de koloniale geleerden Linnet Taylor (Tilburg University) en Paola Ricaurte Quijano (Harvard Berkman Klein Center). Drankjes en snacks worden verstrekt; registratie is vereist. De organisatoren zijn Paula Helm, Beatrice Bonami, en Roanne van Voorst, die van plan zijn om samen met inheemse onderzoekers artikelen te schrijven en workshops te co-creëren in zowel Parintins als Amsterdam.

How do various communities of original peoples in the Amazon Rainforest appropriate digital technologies, and what limits do they encounter when confronted with digital devices and algorithms conceived of from a Western-centered perspective? This event explores the creative potential in those moments when different epistemologies collide at the same interface.
On May 21st, you’re invited to Belcampo Café De Hallen in Amsterdam to celebrate the visit of our indigenous collaborators from the Sateré Mawe community, who traveled from the Amazon Rainforest to meet us. The event will showcase photography, paintings, and other materials co-produced during two months of field research.
During the event, Josias and Joao Sateré will share their visions of digital futures, followed by keynotes from decolonial scholars Linnet Taylor (Tilburg University) and Paola Ricaurte Quijano (Harvard Berkman Klein Center). Drinks and snacks will be provided; registration is required. The organizers are Paula Helm, Beatrice Bonami, and Roanne van Voorst, who seek to co-author research papers with indigenous researchers and co-design workshops in both Parintins and Amsterdam.
