INDRA met Monique de Adelhart Toorop

INDRA is a musical myth about an Indonesian boy named Indra, that finds a magical kris and goes looking for his father that he doesn’t know. A world full of desires, life questions, mystic, and martial arts pencak silat in the times of the kingdom Majapahit in the 15^th century B.C. Monique and PieterJan are making music together and working on musical monologues. Their first production was ‘’Bergen geluk’’ (‘’mountains of Happiness’’). An autobiographical storytelling about the well being of mountain hiking. After that came ‘’Kourfont- a musical monologue about standstill’’, where the tension arc between silence and still music engages a battle with each other. Where the in the first two productions a lot of edits and translations have the upper hand, concerns it in the third production ‘’Indra’’ texts and compositions of Monique and PieterJan themselves. The result is a spherical, jazzy story where there is a room for improvisation, thanks to the addition of bassist Dion Nijland and drummer Nout IngenHousz.
