Exhbition ‘Seeds and trees’

Vika Haas is a self-taught artist from Ukraine. Her works seems to be assembled from small bright pieces, some of her paintings look like stained glass or mosaics. Most of these works are painted on glass. This technique allows to create multilayer images – when some colors and elements of the painting are under the glass and others are on top of it. These intersections of layers make paintings deeper and brighter. There are two main symbols in Vika’s art – the pomegranate and the tree.

Aesthetics and the symbolism of the pomegranate attracts many artists. Vika Haas is one of them. She uses the power of this symbol to reveal the topics of inner growth and interdependence of the phenomena around us. Through the symbol of the tree Vika shows that the striving for union and support are our vital needs. Tree branches stretching towards each other are all about intergenerational relationships and the desire to be closer to loved ones.
