Exhibition ‘DANCER’
Former ballet dancer and photographer Rob van Woerkom exhibits with ‘DANCER’ from 3 to 7 May in Galerie Beelden Gesproken in De Hallen Amsterdam. It shows a selection of studio portraits Van Woerkom has made of dancers over the past 40 years.
Rob van Woerkom danced with Dutch National Ballet in choreographies by Balanchine, Petipa and the Dutch Toer van Schayk, Rudi van Dantzig and Hans van Manen, among others.
“During the 16 years that I was a ballet dancer with Dutch National Ballet, I took up photography and continued to do so after my dance career. Every person I photographed for this exhibition is or was a professional ballet dancer. The concentration, surrender and dedication are the elements that fascinate me in the art of dance because those aspects are visible in the physique of a ballet dancer. That’s what I try to capture in my photography.”
