Choreography: Hold Your Own
“When time pulls lives apart
Hold your own
When all there is
Is knowing that you feel what you are feeling
Hold your own
Feel each decision that you make
Make it, hold it
Don’t hold back
And let it be”
We explore how life circumstances shape our identities from childhood to adulthood. Follow the journey of two individuals who cross paths in their growth, discovering each other through curiosity and playfulness. They strive to remain true to themselves despite life’s pressures and find unity and connection in their shared vulnerability.
Henry Rodriguez
Choreography: Pulling Scales
Pulling Scales is one of Henry Rodriguez’s rare works from his Physical Rootlessness series, which examines disoriented bodies within dystopian socio-political contexts. It critiques patriarchal systems, enforced respect, and distorted communist ideals. Drawing on Cuba’s rich cultural history, Rodriguez explores identity, repression, and migration through surrealism and hyperrealism. His work reflects fragmented, unruly bodies while questioning individualism and subconscious desires. This new piece evokes raw emotions and invites diverse interpretations.
“Remove the rigid plate, the shell, the camouflage. I like to see what lies beyond endurance. Long and dense is the walk towards the core. Pull off your scales to see yourself. To feel yourself. I want to taste the inner walls of your steel body.”
