Exhibition ‘To Wait’

Residents of asylum seekers’ centers (AZCs) wait up to a year and a half for their asylum procedure to start. Photographer and filmmaker Mona van den Berg makes the effect of waiting without a future perspective visible in this exhibition.

In the asylum seekers’ centre, the days are stringing together without perspective. Nobody knows when the asylum application will be processed. In the meantime they can hardly make themselves useful. The hopeless waiting and the insecurity undermines their health. It can drive people crazy.

Between the photos, 12 to 15 poems from the books of Rodaan al Galidi are displayed, clearly the result of waiting and the foresight coming forward. This exhibition serves to draw attention to the backlog at the IND and the IND’s working methods. Publisher Jurgen Maas publishes the photo book of the same name. It will be published on December 10, Human Rights Day.
