Expo: the pink highlight

8 January – 3 February 2025
De Passage, De Hallen Amsterdam

OUT OF LOVE FOR WORDS, PATTERNS AND THE COLOUR PINK

Barbara is the person behind the pink highlight. She has worked in fashion business for many years, which explains her love for the colour black and for design. In the summer of 2022 she started creating the pink highlight texts for the first time in her life.

She simply loves the cadence of the words, seeing a pattern around a theme in a text. Friends often think of her when they see anything pink, so she started using a pink highlighter to add some colour to the texts. Life isn’t always black and white, now is it?
To encourage herself to keep making these works, she decided to post them on Instagram. In the many shared book-cabinets in the streets of Amsterdam, she looks for useful books and finds joy in creating new texts from these pages.

In 2021 she was diagnosed with autism. Life is extra challenging for people with autism, but despite the struggles, she sees her mind as a beautiful mind. She likes that she sees the world differently from neuro typical people. Her creative mind notices details and things others often don’t. Other typical things for her autistic mind are: authenticity, loyalty & honesty, compassion, high integrity with a strong moral compass, analytical, critical with a strong sense of justice and appreciative of small things that others might see as insignificant. You just might find a reflection of those characteristics in her works.

In De Passage in De Hallen prints of the pink highlights are displayed. The pink colour is marked by hand.

There is currently an exposition of the pink highlight originals at Gallery Beeldend Gesproken in de Hallen. The originals are for sale there, as are the pink highlight cards. Cards and originals are also for sale through the webshop www.thepinkhighlight.com.
